transforming steel supply into steel service
Suburban Steel Supply proudly serves the central Ohio, Indianapolis, and Louisville markets with the same dedication to customer service that has defined our success since 1979.

Chuck Boster and Bill Jaeger founded Suburban Steel Supply in 1979 in Summit Station, Ohio, with the goal of pioneering and developing the use of structural steel in residential construction. Although residential builders occasionally used steel, they found the product difficult to procure and use in the field. Boster and Jaeger focused on changing this perception by positioning Suburban Steel Supply as the ultimate service company.
Through the 1980s Suburban Steel grew and expanded beyond the residential market to supply structural steel to commercial builders. We also launched our field service division, Suburban Erectors, to provide onsite erection and crane services.
In 1990, we relocated to a 16-acre facility in Pataskala, Ohio—a move that more than tripled our land and facilities, and allowed us to expand our product offerings to include rebar and concrete accessories, and fabrication and erection services for ornamental/miscellaneous metals.
In 1995 Boster and Jaeger sold the operation to the family-operated Crane Group. Mark DeBellis, a member of the Crane Plastics leadership team, was named co-owner and president of Suburban Steel and continued the legacy of service started by Boster and Jaeger.
In 1997, Suburban Steel expanded into the Indianapolis market with the acquisition of the D.R. Short Steel Co., which later became known as Suburban Steel of Indiana.
In 2005, we relocated our corporate headquarters to a 21-acre location in Gahanna, Ohio, which also services the Dayton area. Later that year, we launched an office in Louisville, Kentucky.
In 2006, our Louisville operation expanded with the acquisition of Greenrose Inc., an established provider of structural steel, decorative concrete supplies and concrete tools for more than 17 years.
Today, Suburban Steel Supply proudly serves the central Ohio, Indianapolis, and Louisville markets with the same dedication to customer service that has defined our success since 1979.
